Cribs Recalled Due to Hazard Posed to Children

In an effort to keep consumers safe, victims of harm from unsafe products enjoy extensive protections under the law. Children's product maker, Oeuf, recently issued a recall of some cribs due to an entrapment hazard presented to children because of a design defect. According to the recall, the slats, spindles and top rail of the crib can detach, causing an entrapment hazard to the child. The company has reported four instances of the slats, spindles or the top rail detaching from the cribs. The recall applies to the "sparrow" style of crib which was sold in a variety of colors. According to the recall, consumers should cease using the product and contact the company for a repair kit.

The area of law referred to as product liability law seeks to keep consumers safe from dangerous products. Dangerous products can refer to a broad category of products, including those that pose a hazard due to a design defect. Through product liability law, victims injured by dangerous products can receive compensation for injuries, damages and harm through defective product claims.

When injured or harm, an affected consumer may wish to bring a lawsuit against the party responsible for the harm. In the area of products liability law, this can refer to a number of parties, including manufacturer, wholesalers and retail sellers of the product, as well as others who may all be legally responsible for the harm suffered by the victim. Damages the victim may receive will depend on the nature of the harm, which can include injuries or otherwise, but will generally provide compensation for the physical, financial and emotional harm the victim has suffered.

There may be a variety of theories upon which to pursue liability of parties involved in the design, manufacture and distribution of a dangerous product. While it may seem complex, it is important to have a thorough understanding of the options available to victims when harmed.
