Oil Field Explosion Causes Injuries, 1 Death in Burleson County

Visible flames greeted first responders the afternoon of Jan. 29 after an oil well blowout started a fire at a well site in Burleson County.

The Chesapeake Energy Corporation was in charge of the site and reported the death of one contractor as a result of the incident, along with three hospitalizations. According to Fox 44 News, victims were airlifted to medical facilities in Austin and Houston via helicopter.

With the assistance of other law enforcement and emergency personnel, The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office secured the site and offered aid to injured workers and others in need.

DPS officials don’t see a need to evacuate the area, nor do they suspect any immediate or significant threat to the public.

The tragedy was reported at approximately 3:00 p.m. Firefighters, medical helicopters, and other first responders arrived soon after. The incident took place south of Deanville, along County Road 127 and reportedly caused multiple injuries.

Chesapeake is expected to provide additional information in the coming days.
