Scott R. Meyer
Scott R. Meyer is a senior litigation associate whose practice focuses primarily on representation of lenders, mortgage servicers, businesses, and individuals in the practice areas of commercial litigation, real estate litigation, general business litigation, landlord/tenant disputes, probate and estate law, and bankruptcy-related matters in both state and federal forums. Scott’s experience includes representation of financial institutions in conjunction with residential and commercial mortgages in Texas, representation of commercial landlords in various landlord/tenant disputes and related litigation, representation of individuals and business in real estate, probate, estate and trust related matters, and representation of creditors in bankruptcy matters. Scott’s experience in handling a diverse range of litigation matters through all stages from initial retention to trial and appellate resolution, coupled with his dedication to continually providing clients with competent, efficient and cost-effective legal representation, has produced outstanding results for individuals, small businesses, and institutional clients alike.
Scott is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Dallas Bar Association, and Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. Scott received his B.B.A. degree in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin in 1999, and his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Texas Tech University in 2005. Scott was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2005. Prior to joining Deans & Lyons, Scott was a senior associate in the commercial litigation section of Cowles & Thompson, P.C. in Dallas, Texas from 2005-2010.
Representative Matters:
- Representation of mortgage servicers in state and federal litigation arising out of alleged violations of state and federal debt collection and lender liability laws, alleged DTPA violations and alleged breach of contract.
- Representation of commercial property owners in pre and post litigation disputes with tenants.
- Representation of mortgage lenders to recover on defaulted loans, protect secured collateral, initiate receivership proceedings for mortgaged properties, pursue foreclosures on secured properties, and pursue litigation to enforce lender’s rights and remedies with regard to secured properties and underlying loans.
- Representation of various creditors, including banks, corporations, municipalities, and small businesses, in bankruptcy proceedings in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 cases and related adversary proceedings.
- Representation of individual trustee in litigation arising out of allegations of breach of fiduciary duty, self-dealing, and violations of the Texas Trust Code.
- Representation of small businesses in general business and contractual disputes with third parties.
- Representation of executors, administrators and beneficiaries in conjunction with probate and estate related litigation.
